Red Mountain Update – January 2008

This Christmas holidays, 3 SASA members enjoyed all that Red Mountain (Ski Academy) had to offer.  Monica and Richard are there for the whole season of course, but they were joined for 2 weeks by younger brother Morgan.

The snow was deep, the weather kinder than it could have been and the powder fell daily. Top that up with friendly locals and excellent homestay parents and the experience was complete.

Great for free skiing and improving "all mountain" technique but, thanks to the set-up at the Academy, training was good too.

Overnight the training piste was 'graded' and then coaches and athletes were up early to set gates and 'deep slip' the course to make it ready for training. The car park is a few paces from 'red' lift and the lift runs alongside the training piste so a morning training (9am - 1pm) was a pretty good workout. After that free skiing was until 3pm, so athletes can work for themselves on what they have been focussing on, or simply have fun and improve their 'all mountain' skiing. No wonder they looked so happy.

The FIS team worked on a long course, the K1 and K2 skiers trained a shorter course nearby and Morgan joined the 'holiday club' to meet some of the locals and work on aspects of his skiing we get almost no chance to cover here in Europe.

Brilliant!
