If getting young people involved in sport sometimes feels like an up-hill struggle……..you have obviously not yet considered the thrills of skiing. Have a look at the news and opportunities on offer and then why not come and join us? Children In the spring we hold our own Interschool Ski Challenge and in the Autumn several of the schools send teams to the National Championships. In 2006 we sent our first team to race on snow, at the British Schoolboys International Championships, in France. We now have athletes competing regularly on snow in all parts of the world. New for 2007/2008 we will be holding a Winter League series of timed events over the winter. Adults New members, children and adults, are always welcome, regardless of age or ability. If you are interested in joining SASA or would just like to come along on a Tuesday evening for some training in a friendly, welcoming environment, please contact us at skiing4schools@aol.com or call Lesley on 01962 711178. More information can be found on our Membership and Contacts pages. History The club has existed since June 2001, when it began life as Otterbourne Primary Ski Club. The purpose was to teach children to ski in order to maintain the school ski team which had been participating in the English Championships since 1999. Word got out however, and very soon there were children from many schools local to the Southampton area who were also keen to take part. In 2004 the name was changed to the Southampton Area Ski Association, or SASA, to represent this expanded interest and in January 2006 the club registered with the governing body, Snowsport England |
